It is with great disappointment that we announce that Rochester Public Library will discontinue access to Hoopla beginning July 1, 2026.
Hoopla has been a popular digital service that allows library cardholders to instantly borrow eBooks, audiobooks, movies, television shows, comics, and music. We know many members of our community have come to rely on Hoopla as part of their regular library experience, and this decision was not made lightly.
Like many libraries across the country, we continue to face rising costs for digital content and library services. Unfortunately, the pay-per-use pricing model that makes Hoopla so convenient for patrons has also become increasingly difficult to sustain within our available budget.
After careful evaluation of our resources and community needs, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the service. While Hoopla will no longer be available, Rochester Public Library remains committed to providing robust digital collections and online services. Patrons will continue to have access to thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, and other digital resources through our other library platforms, including Libby and additional online services available through the Monroe County Library System.
We understand that many patrons will be disappointed by this news, and we share that disappointment. Our staff will continue to explore opportunities to expand digital access whenever funding and licensing conditions allow.
