“New Library Patron” Summer Raffle

Summer fun starts with a library card! Today, Mayor Malik D. Evans announced the launch of the Rochester Public Library’s New Library Patron summer raffle, part of a summer-long campaign to welcome new cardholders and engage a fresh community of readers, movie buffs, and music lovers.

“Summer reading is critical for young people, and we want to encourage them to check out our libraries throughout the summer,” said Mayor Evans. “If you or your children don’t have a library card yet, it’s time to sign up and explore all the amazing resources. Even if you don’t win the raffle, you still win by getting a library card.”

From June through August 31, Rochester residents without a library card can participate in the raffle by signing up for a card at any of the 10 Rochester Public Library branch locations. Every person who registers for a new library card will be automatically entered into the raffle. Each month, one lucky winner will be randomly selected to receive a media item, such as a book, movie, or CD, of their choice, valued up to $30. In addition, the library where the new cardholder registered will also receive a copy of the selected item to enrich the collection for all patrons to enjoy.

“The Rochester Public Library’s slogan is More Than You Think, and with our incredible array of in-person and online offerings, it’s time everyone signed up for a library card,” said Emily Clasper, Director of Rochester Public Library. “With costs rising everywhere, the library continues to provide free education and entertainment options for all. We can’t wait to see you at the library this summer.”

With a library card, community members can access a wide variety of free resources across the entire Monroe County Library System, including:

  • Thousands of books, movies, and CDs to borrow,
  • E-books, audiobooks, and online learning platforms,
  • Community programs, workshops, and events for all ages, and
  • Study spaces and technology resources at all branches.

“We are thrilled to offer this fun and rewarding opportunity to our community,” said Donna Borgus, Executive Director of Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library (FFRPL). “Signing up for a library card opens up a world of possibilities. At FFRPL, we understand the value of libraries and want everyone in our community to benefit from this incredible resource.”

The Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library (FFRPL) generously provided funds for the summer raffle.
