Description: The City Hall Photo Lab Contemporary collection contains over 3,700 images depicting official City events and programs and documenting public works services and projects in Rochester since the 1980s. The images were selected from over 20,000 slides, negatives and digital photographs taken by Rochester City photographers. The City Hall Photo Lab Vintage collection contains 150 images selected from over 5,000 35mm slides made in 1984 from photographs, maps, renderings, and other graphics from Rochester’s past. Images include many aspects of City government through the years, plus general views of Rochester from the 1760’s through the 1960’s.
Physical Access to the Collection: A “Records Access Application” needs to be filed with the Bureau of Communications before access to the collection is granted. Contact the City Hall Photo Lab (contact information above) to make an appointment.
Printing Images for Educational or Personal Use: The credit line “From the collection of the Rochester City Hall Photo Lab” must accompany any image printed from this collection.
Use and Restrictions, Including Copyright Information: The contributors to the Rochester Images database provide these images for non-commercial, personal, educational, or research use only. Prior written permission from the contributing partner must be obtained for any other use, including but not limited to commercial or scholarly publications, reproductions, or redistribution of an image.
Users should be aware that materials in Rochester Images may be subject to additional restrictions including but not limited to copyright, privacy, and/or publicity rights.
